According to the Weston A. Price Foundation, and Sally Fallon Morell —  cereals are extruded and have zero nutritional value for you. She is referring to most of the cereal on the shelves of mainstream grocery stores.  They are extruded nutrient lacking junk, not real food. They are loaded with added synthetic vitamins.  We do not yet know exactly how synthetic vitamins affect our bodies.  Some scientists believe that the body cannot process them at all, while other food scientists believe that they are actually very dangerous to our bodies.  Ideally, and it is not always easy to do so with our current food system,( and the way it is structured),  to obtain all of our daily nutritional needs through our foods.    The soil is not the same as it was may years ago, when all of our foods were grown with great hardship and even greater care, and everything was organic.  Now days, we have soil that is severely lacking in nutrients , doused with artificial fertilizers, and toxic pesticides, and the food that is grown out of these types of farming is sorely lacking.

Cereal is a sensitive subject for some.  Between the mainstream children’s cereal and the “healthy” variety it is very challenging to decipher health benefits of cereal.  While it  is an easy “go to” for us busy Mamas, when we are crunched for time, when the kids don’t like the dinner you make, or just as a snack.      In our home,  it turns out to be a great conduit for getting my kids to drink their raw milk.  So what is a health nut mama to do? Research, search and search and by trial and error, I have found a few different cereals, that all the while still processed, are great alternatives.  Granola is even better.

The cereal we eat is made by  One Degree Organic Foods.

This company also makes granola! Some kids don’t like granola, so this post is about cereal.  They have several different options, and I feel just fine and ok with my kids eating this every once in a while, in addition to their whole foods diet.  This company is completely transparent when it comes to where exactly they source their ingredients from.  There’s even a bar code right on the box that lets you track it.

My kids just love this stuff, and even though they may ask me to buy the junk cereal, that is so prevalent in our society, they don’t need to go without since this is an equable option. Since I order mostly (99%) of my groceries online.  It is a rare outing when I am in a health food store with my babes.  Another reason for that is because it is so easy to get food delivery at home, that I could never go back to my old ways of grocery shopping, and my kids won’t be getting unnecessary exposure to all that mass marketed garbage food.  Even in a health food store, while you don’t see many mainstream junk foods, there are still plenty of unhealthy options.  If you or your family eat cereal, and especially if that cereal is the healthy extruded kind, with ingredients that humans shouldn’t be eating,  and you will have only your wise choice and good health to thank.
