As I diffuse On Guard essential oil blend in all the common areas of my home, I must confess, it does feel a little odd writing this to you all during these unprecedented times. But one thing the amazing dōTERRA community has taught me is that we are nothing if not resilient and that our community will get through this. As we navigate these upcoming weeks of social distancing, please be sure to take an opportunity to engage in self care for yourself, whether that be a few moments to take a deep breath or a walk outside. And just remember, our children are even more resilient than we are. Take a cue from their optimism, hope and creativity and use this time to explore new activities as a family and engage them in learning in other ways.

As we enter a New Era, led by a pandemic that is reinforcing how important self-hygiene is; we are officially V interested again in taking better care of ourselves, and so now is the time to get the whole family back on track with their daily wellness routines. If you are living through this “history in the making”, this particular March 2020 is a V important time to begin getting back into those healthy habits and sleep routines that help us us stay stress free, well rested and strong. This makes the transition to “Couchella (aka self home quarantine)”, easier for everyone. An an extroverted introvert, I have been preparing for this type of thing my whole life. I have zero problems staying in my home sanctuary. This is the most comfortable place I could ever be.  I especially love knowing that I can accomplish this with safe and natural solutions. The best part about dōTERRA is that, no matter what life throws at you, no matter what transition you are experiencing, there are tools to help you get through.  My littles are hardly ever under the weather, and I like to keep it that way.  Emotional support is critical to care for at this time. I have had OG Protective blend diffusing around the clock, and I am stockpiling oils, totally not worried about toilet paper. Order yourself a bidet, and you will be covered.

You can boost your child’s immunity proactively, with some of the finest quality supplements available . I want the best for my kids, and I know you want the best for yours too.  Below is a protocol you can use when you need to boost their immune system response, emotions, and growing pains.  At the Roots Report, we are are on point with today’s main  priority.

Immune & Emotional Support for the Family

Start your days with calm and tranquility.   We are all a little nervous about what’s going on right now. And if you are wondering which oil helps me  transition  to calmness the best, it is the BREATHE BLEND! I diffuse it with a lovely citrus oil (green mandarin is my fave) ; for an instant boost in energy, stamina, focus and redirection. Our news is changing by the minute, and it is imperative that we stay alert, and looking ahead as this viral cleansing takes place. Let’s all do our part to flatten the curve. There are many different theories about the virus, and the china implication. We must use our common sense.

I may seem like I have it all together but let me tell you, the struggle is REAL, especially during these trying times. and I am not going to lie, and tell you life is perfect.  It’s not. Perfection is overrated. Perfection causes an immense amount of anxiety and procrastination. There really is no such thing as perfect. Be gentle with yourself. We are all doing the best we can, with what we’ve got.  We are all in this together. Just get started! And that is the beauty of it, because I can be your oil specialist in the digital space, online!

Before going over the oils that assist and support, I want to make sure I touch on some super helpful lifestyle hacks that will help you feel your most energized self.

Make a nutritious, balanced diet a priority. Teaching kids at a young age the importance of healthy eating habits can make a lasting impression on health. This includes keeping germs away. Emphasize avoiding processed foods, and eating plenty of fruits, veggies, and legumes. Limit sugar, a known immune system suppressant. If you can get your hands on organic, non-GMO clean foods (produce mainly), please buy those. If you can only buy conventional right now, be sure to use a veggie wash, (I like a lemon oil in water soak).

You can soak your produce in water infused with Lemon Essential Oil, or you can use the dōTERRA Foaming hand wash for this purpose too, it is toxin free.  An abundance of fruits and veggies are so important for overall health.   I do my best to practice the 80/20 rule with my own kids. Where 20% of what they eat is not super healthy or occasional sweets. I buy  plant-based dairy free, soy free, corn free ice cream. Nutrition is critical. Shakes made with TerraGreens are yummy and provide a nutrient rich method of delivery for all ages.  Especially my discerning eater. You are what you eat!

Fiber, greens, enzymes, and protein are the four most important ingredients in any meal.  My kids don’t always eat breakfast but ideally I like to start their day with a satiating breakfast, such as a bowl of mixed berries and fruit, oatmeal, cereal with raw milk, yogurt and granola, avocado toast, or a veggie-packed omelet. Continue with a balanced lunch and snacks, such as a sandwich with nut protein, sprouted crackers with organic grass-fed cheese, and fresh fruit. If you eat meat you can finish with a healthy dinner of wild salmon, grass-fed beef or pastured chicken, legumes, veggies, (eggs if vegetarian) and some fresh raw greens to aid in digestion. For vegans, and those who don’t eat animal proteins, try nuts, seeds, chickpeas, beans, legumes, leafy greens,  and tempeh.  Rice and beans are a complete protein when eaten together.  Another complete protein is broccoli eaten with mushrooms and corn.  Yay for veggie burgers! I like making my special heavy metals pesto, garlic roasted potatoes, cucumber salsas, and so much more!

Soap up often. Experts say the #1 way to ward off sickness is to practice frequent hand washing.

Encourage your child to lather up persistently.  I have tried A LOT of different liquid and foaming soaps over the years, and I used a very popular non-toxic brand for 6 years (it had thymol, which is a component of thyme essential oil but in it’s adulterated synthetic form) –  before switching to the On Guard Foaming hand wash. It only takes one pump to get the job done! Your kids’ hands will be so clean!! You can even do the smell test on them.  You will smell the spicy aroma of On Guard on their hands, and they will never be able to fib again. I have been adding Thyme oil to my OG foaming hand soap, just a few drops will do the trick and zap those buggers away. You can find some good recipes at #oilswithmarianna on Instagram.

In addition, remind the kids to avoid the habit of touching or rubbing their face, especially the nose, eyes, ears, and mouth, in order to avoid infection. I recently was shocked when I realized how much I actually touch my face, bringing awareness to this is something else. At home, frequently clean high-contact items, such as doorknobs, faucets and telephones. Ensure that your kids have time to de-stress. There is a direct correlation between stress and a weakened immune response, so make sure kids have time to play and unwind. Encourage time outdoors to unplug from technology, as well as creative activities such as painting and drawing. Exercise is also an ideal outlet; strengthening immunity, busting stress and protecting against childhood obesity. Experts even suggest that children try yoga and meditation, which have been found to boost immunity, improve concentration, lower stress, increase confidence and much much more.

While every extra precaution helps prevent getting sick, sometimes it inevitably occurs. Don’t fight it — instead, ensure your child STAYS HOME, GETS PLENTY OF REST,  gets an abundance of  SUPPORT USING ESSENTIAL OILS, has proper SUPPLEMENTATION during the course of the illness and STAYS HYDRATED. Lots of coconut water, and fresh alkalizing fruits. And veggies for minerals. My sources tell me that most teachers resent it when parents send their sick children for a day at school when unwell.  I know it’s not always easy to miss work, and that’s why in this unraveling of the digital era, I invite you to work with me!

Daily Support Protocol:

Peppermint and Wild Orange are fantastic to diffuse during those groggy mornings.  Doing so will uplift and energize your space.

Balance Blend  and Serenity Blend ease anxious feelings and lessen tension.  First day jitter busters are a must. Place a drop on your childs’ collar, shoulder or headband. Rub these oils into your kids’ hair so they can catch a whiff when they turn their head. You can apply these blends separately or together over the heart and bottoms of the feet..  I like to apply our proprietary Balance oil blend on the bottoms of my feet, and I also diffuse Serenity for anxious mornings, and using Peppermint combined with Wild Orange for sluggish mornings is great.Oils are nice to apply to bottoms of feet and over the heart several times throughout the day.  The key thing about using oils is using them sparingly (in most cases you only need 1 drop), but frequently. Lately I hav e been having more frequent oils break just so I can inhale and cleanse my thoughts , aura field and physical body of any unnecessary weight. Balance blend before leaving the house and Serenity blend for tough situations is key.  Give your kids a rollerball with these oils, diluted in fractionated coconut oil. This way they are empowered to roll it on and inhale to take a much needed break in their day, or when situations get uncomfortable at school. This also teaches mindfulness in children. Another wonderful way to empower kids and encourage mindfulness is by giving kids their own toolkit. Shhh, don’t tell my kids but I use it too.

Daily Protection to Elevate Immunity roller + spray bottle blend:

(some people prefer sprays, some prefer rollerball bottles)

In a 10mL roller  or  4 oz spray bottle

7 drops OnGuard (immune function)

On Guard is for a child’s natural defense, and to boost immunity.

3  drops Balance (emotional support)

3  drops In Tune (focus)

3 drops Cedarwood (centering, grounding)

2 drop Bergamot (supporting confidence)

3 drops Roman Chamomile (calming, stabilizing)

5 drops Frankincense (cellular health)

1 drop Melissa  ( our most antiviral oil)

1 drop Oregano  (most antibacterial oil)

Blend together in your roller/sprayer and top with fractionated coconut oil.

Apply to spine, back of neck, bottoms of feet and pulse points in the morning, afternoon and night for healthy kids, every 30-60 minutes during a bout with illness. Less when taking proactive measures. Remember to be CONSISTENT! Healthy is and can be simple.

Several of the above recommendations are for adults also.

Have your child (over the age of 4)  pop an On Guard Beadlet, or take an On Guard Protecting Throat Drop heading out the door. For grownups and kids 10 years and older, who are able to swallow pills;  I recommend the On Guard Soft Gels. Not only do they have the protective blend in them, but they have a few other POWERHOUSE OILS you will want to have to keep yourself and your family healthy!

Learn more about this synergistic OG blend and all the health promoting tools here:  On Guard Education.

Breathe Respiratory Drop  – take one in the pocket for later in the day, especially useful before PE for oxygenation. Also comes in handy in stuffy classrooms, that put kids to sleep,  when they just need to take a deep breathe, but there is no air.  Children old enough not to have a choking risk can use the throat drops anytime throughout the day. My kids devour them like they are candy. So I let them without any worry because I know they are getting the benefits of these pure and potent plant allies internally as well.

Slim and Sassy Metabolic Gum for after lunch to cleanse the teeth and palate and for digestion. This piece of advice is usually for older kids, middle school, high school and college age. Unless the teachers do not allow gum chewing in their classroom. In that case, you can give it to them after school. If your family is of the gum-chewing variety (like mine), it is so satisfying and energizing, you will never want to buy a different brand of gum ever again. I’m serious. And it doesn’t have refined GMO sugar or cancer causing ingredients.

Protective/Lice Prevention Hair Spray:

In a 4 oz. bottle mix –

2 Tbs fractionated coconut oil

Add a pinch of salt

6 drops Lavender

6 drops Peppermint

6 drops Melaleuca

Fill the rest with: 1/2 water & 1/2 witch hazel

-Shake Well-  Spray on hair and comb through before school.

Sore Muscles:

Dilute:   Deep Blue for the athlete, or old and tired people in your family.  I use the rub daily, it has this DB oil blend in it, and I do yoga. I love how dōTERRA not only supports everyone’s immune system, and stress level, but it also comes in handy for so many of life’s physical situations that occur with little growing bodies.  I dilute the touch roller in half for my children.

Diffuse:   Serenity  is for a restful night’s sleep for them and for you.  Spray on sheets, onto pillow and stuffed animals.  Apply down the spine, base of skull (where the brain stem is), as well as the bottoms of the feet. Have you child inhale deeply!! Don’t forget to practice self-care during this stressful time!

Super Power Immunity Blend (FLOOM):

A potent super blend that I mixed up to help with the occasional sniffle.  At the very first sign of a weakened immune system, my kids get this blend on their feet, down their spine, at the brain stem, and in the diffuser.  Sometimes I combine it with the healing properties and energies of crystals, water sayings and gemstone crystal rollers.

10 drops Frankincense

6 drops Lemon

6 drops Oregano

6 drops OnGuard

6 drops Melaleuca

Top it off with fractionated coconut oil

Home Diffuser Blend:

2 drops Basil (promotes focus and alertness)

2 drops Bergamot (calming and uplifting at the same time, and especially helpful when you are feeling anxious).

2 drops Motivate (unleashes creative powers)

2 drops Spearmint (evokes focus and a positive mood)

Oil Pulling:

Oil pulling is a great way to pull toxins from our bodies.  All you need to do is combine 1 teaspoon coconut oil with 1/2 drop of oil of choice (we like peppermint or clove) in a spoon and swish for 2-10 minutes.  You can also use ice molds to freeze the mixture and transfer to a jar.  My kids love having a chilled piece of lego shaped essential coconut oil ready to pop into their mouths.  Oh that reminds me, I need to make more.

Tapping

I’ve been exploring Tapping.  I discovered it years ago, and used to do it a lot.  Tapping immediately before my daily meditation practice has been so emotionally cleansing for me, and I hope my kids will be intrigued enough to listen to my unit on it designed just for them. Tapping has tremendous benefits for all of us!!

Clean Water, Exercise, Sunshine,  Laughter and Quality Sleep are all important factors in how we can alter our state from a low vibe to a higher vibration.  Self Care is high on the list, but also fun experiences and new adventures are a must, in an abundantly vibrant lifestyle.  Remember to live wholeheartedly, laugh and learn everyday, be that which you wish to attract.   Essential Oils can support your emotional (or trauma) healing journey. Personally I would really like some time away on a nature trip. For a long while. But I know we can all do better connected in this digital age together and still help each other do better. We can all just relax into our own homes, our sanctuaries. This is how it is meant to be.

A gentle reminder to breathe, rest and take care of yourself during this uncertain time. The most powerful antidote to the feeling of fear is gratitude. When all seems wild, I find just one thing to say thank you for. And then another. And another. Right now, with this breath, I pause. And start again. There is beauty even in the storm. I believe that answers come in stillness and there’s never been a more important time to rest and soften, to stay home and give gentle care to yourself and those closest to you.
